Brands that are NOT Cruelty-Free at Sephora:
Sephora does carry a lot of cruelty-free brands. For those who shop there, I think that it is important for them to know which brands are the best to support. Unfortunately, the house line of cosmetics sold at Sephora is not cruelty-free. Sephora does have stores in China, where animal testing is required by law. Their house brand is sold in these stores.
I know that because of this, some people want to avoid shopping at Sephora altogether. For those who decide to not purchase items from Sephora, you can always go into the store to look at the cruelty-free brands and cruelty-free products in person, take home samples, and then order online directly from the brand itself or from Ulta.
Sadly, the list of brands that are not cruelty-free at Sephora is long. This is not a full list of the brands that are NOT cruelty-free at Sephora. It’s just ones that I get asked about a lot. Or brands that people tend to think are cruelty-free but actually are not. Go to the brands that are not cruelty-free list to view other brands that test on animals.
If you are looking to purchase only cruelty-free brands at Sephora, you should avoid the following brands:
- Benefit Cosmetics
- Bobbi Brown
- Caudalie
- Chanel
- Clarins
- Clinique
- Dior
- Estee Lauder
- Glamglow
- Gucci
- Kiehl’s
- L’Occitane
- La Mer
- Laura Mercier
- Makeup Forever
- Marc Jacobs Fragrances
- NARS
- Origins
- Sephora Collection

Thank you for your update – new follower. In Oct I compiled my a cruelty-free list prior to the Sephora VIB sale. Your site makes this so much more convenient. Will be reading more as soon as I have some time!
Hi Tashina,
I wanted to ask about The Inkey List since they sell in sephora but I can’t find them on any of your lists or mention of them in any of your posts.
I just saw that Ilia is also cruelty free/ @ sephora
I’d love to know if the clean fragances at sephora are cruelty free? Most of them claim to be, but I’m not too sure where it stands with LH, thank you 🙂
Hello Tashina,
I can’t find Kosas on any of the lists on your website (cruelty-free list, waiting list, non cruelty free list…). Have you had time to reach at them yet?
Thank you sooooo much for all your hard work!
Best wishes
Léa
Hi! They have been on the cruelty-free brand list since 2017. 🙂
Hi Tashina,
Why Huda isn’t on the list? I thought they claimed they don’t test on animals. Did you ever got any proof of them? They never replied to my questions.
Hi Anna,
I have been unable to get a response from Huda, so I don’t have enough information to determine if they are cruelty-free or not.
I just bought Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation and Contour but saw in small print on the box when I got home made in PRC? How can they be cruelty-free?
Hi Jo-Ann! Thankfully, products made in China are not required to be tested on animals. It’s only when sold there. You can read more about it here – Are Cosmetics Made in China Cruelty-Free?
